Our History

In this section there is brief history of the different parts that make up Big Red Curtain Ltd. including our original history from 1997.

Big Red Curtain History

Big Red Curtain Ltd. is the new cumulative name for all of our performing arts services. From 2008 TheatreWorks and Vivace Music School and Singing Group will be combined as part of Big Red Curtain Ltd.

TheatreWorks History

TheatreWorks is a concept originally conceived in 2004. It is a mix of expert music tuition from Vivace Music School and the performance skills and experience from Vivace Singing Group with the addition of a professional drama teacher this enabled us to provide a new exciting performing-arts school for 2005. TheatreWorks continued to grow and expanded to include a dance teacher to incorporate dance, drama and music lessons as well as stage skills and performance techniques. TheatreWorks has produced many different shows and productions the most popular including our annual shows in the spring and pantomimes before christmas TheatreWorks also produce various end of term productions and charity events accross the year for more information about our shows visit the TheatreWorks Productions page.

Vivace Music History

Vivace Music was established in 1997 as a private Music School originally teaching Piano, Singing and Clarinet lessons in 1998 the concept of a modern performing choir 'Staccato' heralded the beginning of a very successful performing group which in the following years enjoyed winning numerous music competitions including the prestigious Harrogate Music Festival performing on local Television & Radio, BBC Music Live as well as producing its own shows and live performances in various locations throughout Yorkshire. Staccato continued to perform for charity events and shows until 2001.

The group was to be reformed in 2003 as Vivace Singing Group set up to include a low cost professional group tuition for children, teenagers, and adults. The groups main aims are to provide an outlet for performing and showcasing the abilities of pupils as well as raising money for charity.

The year of 2003 marked the return of Vivace Music School & Vivace Singing Group to Oulton, South Leeds

The Music School has gone from strength to strength now offering vocal, piano, clarinet, saxophone and theoretical coaching on a private one to one basis, as well as the opportunity to perform in shows and concerts and local Music Festivals and competitions. All genre of music is offered from jazz, pop, r & b to classical, and of course a speciality music theatre! The pupils have reaped the rewards of performance and examinations with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. All pupils are classical trained and this then enables them to be able to diversify into different areas of music and performance.

The new look Vivace Music Group which incorporates the Music School and Singing Group enjoyed its first large show in 2005 which was produced by Vivace Music Productions. Vivace Music Productions is made up of volunteers mainly parents and family of Vivace Music's pupils which help with costumes, props, make-up, tickets, advertising and various other tasks.

Our Future

This section looks at our plans for the future and what we hope to achieve in the upcoming years.
What does the future have install for us?

As well as improving our links within our casting agency we are constantly looking for new auditions and career links we are considering an online portfolio for our students interested in applying for performing arts roles.

Plans for a full time Performing Arts School which will integrate all parts of Big Red Curtain Ltd. The full time school would have it's own building and small theatre along with dance studios. We are in the preliminary stages of planning and seeking Arts Council funding for the project we would like to create an outstanding Full Time Performing Arts School for Yorkshire and the north.
